Community Health

Air pollution

Construction air pollution poses a serious threat to community health by releasing fine dust particles and harmful toxins into the air. These pollutants can travel beyond the construction site, affecting nearby residents and leading to chronic respiratory conditions, cardiovascular problems, and an increased risk of lung cancer. Vulnerable populations, such as children and the elderly, face heightened risks, with children experiencing stunted lung development and seniors suffering from aggravated health conditions. Additionally, prolonged exposure to poor air quality can weaken immune systems, cause stress, and reduce overall well-being, creating a ripple effect on public health and community resources.

Respiratory Illnesses: Dust and particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) from construction sites can drift into nearby communities, leading to increased cases of asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions, especially in children and the elderly.

Cardiovascular Diseases: Prolonged exposure to fine particles in the air can raise the risk of heart attacks, hypertension, and other cardiovascular conditions in the surrounding population.

Lung Cancer Risk: Harmful emissions from diesel engines and construction equipment release carcinogens, increasing the long-term risk of lung cancer for nearby residents.

Impact on Children’s Health: Developing lungs in children are highly sensitive to air pollution, leading to stunted lung growth, impaired cognitive development, and increased susceptibility to respiratory infections.

Higher Mortality Rates: Long-term exposure to PM2.5 and toxic pollutants is linked to higher mortality rates due to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases within affected communities.

Pregnancy and Birth Outcomes: Air pollution is associated with negative effects on maternal health, including premature births, low birth weight, and developmental issues in newborns.

Decreased Quality of Life: Persistent exposure to dust, noise, and air pollutants diminishes overall quality of life for residents, creating long-term dissatisfaction and potential displacement.

Economic Impact: Increased healthcare costs due to pollution-related illnesses strain household budgets, while missed work or school days affect community productivity
